Insurance Sales Text Message Templates for Open Enrollment

Insurance SMS Templates

You get only a few weeks to reach prospects, remind them, and help them choose the right insurance plan before the open enrollment window shuts. If you miss that window, you might not get another chance until next year. (The only exception is if your client qualifies for life events outside the standard enrollment window. In that case, they can take advantage of the Special Enrollment Period (SEP).)

That’s the reason more insurance agents are turning to insurance sales text message templates instead of relying solely on other communication channels like email or calls. Text messages get read fast. In fact, the FCC’s Consumer Advisory Committee found that the open rate for text messages is 98% and the response rate is 45% , which is far better than email (the open rate for email is 20% and the response rate is 6%).

In this blog, we have curated a list of ready-to-use open enrollment communication templates covering every stage of open enrollment. Use them to reach every client before the deadline passes.

TL;DR

  • SMS open rate is approximately 98%, which is far outperforming email.
  • That’s why using effective insurance sales text message templates that cover the full sales cycle keeps you visible without overwhelming clients.
  • Personalize each open enrollment text message and include an easy way to opt out in each message for TCPA compliance .
  • Keep in mind that these life insurance SMS messages work best as a conversation starter, not a hard sell.
  • TCPA violations cost $500–$1,500 each, so consent and opt-outs matter.
  • Use these open enrollment communication templates and automate the entire sequence with a platform like Textdrip to never miss the deadline.

Why Texting Works Better During Open Enrollment

People don’t check email every hour, but they check their phones constantly. That’s the reason texting outperforms almost every other channel during a short time window like open enrollment.

Also, clients don’t seem to mind receiving these texts. In fact, the opt-out rate for SMS consistently stays under 3%. When a text is relevant and well-timed, people are happy to receive it. That’s a good thing for insurance agents because open enrollment reminders are exactly the kind of message people want: a nudge before a deadline that affects their coverage.

Now think this from a client perspective. Choosing an insurance plan can feel confusing, so most people put it off until the deadline is a day or two away. A short, well-timed, friendly reminder text does what an email buried in an inbox can’t. It shows up right when someone needs the reminder most, and it even makes it easy to reply.

Medicare Annual Election Period Reminder

If you also work with Medicare clients, their enrollment window runs slightly differently from ACA open enrollment. That’s why it deserves its own reminder.

16. Medicare AEP Reminder Text

TCPA Compliance for Open Enrollment Texts

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) treats each text message the same way it treats phone calls under the TCPA. This clearly means that marketing texts require the recipient’s prior consent, and every message needs a way to opt out.

Here are a few rules that are worth knowing.

  • You need to obtain prior explicit consent before texting someone for marketing purposes. A past purchase or an old number on file is not enough.
  • Opt-outs need to be respected immediately. If someone replies STOP, you should not send more messages aside from one confirmation text to let them know they have been unsubscribed.
  • TCPA violations are not cheap. They can cost you $500 to $1,500 per violation. That’s why we have included an opt-out line in each template. You should never treat compliance as an afterthought.

Keep all these rules in mind and include them in your process so you won’t have to think about them every time you send a text.

Final Thoughts

Open enrollment offers a narrow window to reach every client before the deadline passes, and texting is the fastest way to do it because people see your message within minutes, making them more likely to reply and take action. However, manually sending text messages to your entire client list and tracking how your insurance SMS campaign is performing is not realistic.

To solve this, Textdrip helps. With it, you can schedule your entire open enrollment sequence ahead of time. It goes out automatically while you focus on actually talking to clients who reply. This automated SMS marketing platform comes with built-in opt-out handling, so you’re not stuck tracking STOP replies in a spreadsheet. It also offers two-way texting, drip campaigns, SMS automation , contact segmentation , and more. Try Textdrip today to set up your open enrollment campaign and ensure you do not miss the upcoming deadline.

FAQ's

How many open enrollment reminder texts should an agent send?

Ideally, an agent should send no more than three to four reminder texts. Sending too many reminders risks annoying customers, while sending too few usually means people forget. Space reminders at least a few days apart.

Are insurance sales text message templates TCPA compliant?

The wording of a text message template alone doesn’t determine whether it is TCPA compliant. You need to obtain explicit consent first, include an opt-out line in every message, and respect opt-out requests immediately.

What open enrollment text message gets the highest response rate?

Personalized and deadline-driven open enrollment text messages usually perform better and get the highest response rate.
